Reality Contact Architecture

How consequential information reaches power.

A family can have experienced advisers, clear governance documents, and sophisticated reporting while still struggling to bring difficult information into consequential decisions. Reality Contact Architecture examines the conditions that allow useful disagreement, correction, independent judgment, and verified instructions to reach and influence the people who hold authority.

Nine governance domains

Developed by Jerry D. Smith Jr., PsyD, RCA brings together principal receptivity, upward voice, status filtering, source diversity, delegated judgment, informal influence, feedback credibility, decision memory, and reality authentication. It asks whether correction preserves future access, whether concerns can be raised early, whether status changes the substance of advice, whether sources offer materially independent interpretations, and whether delegated authority operates as intended.

Relevance for principals and family offices

This work provides a structured way to think about the information environment surrounding consequential choices. It examines informal influence, credible developmental feedback, decision memory, and authentication of consequential communications. The research series assesses the foundations and boundaries of the framework and identifies questions requiring further investigation. RCA remains under empirical development; this page does not claim a validated assessment or demonstrated outcomes.

New in the RCA Research Series

Concentrated Authority and Information Survival develops RCA's process theory: how information retains its meaning and reaches timely substantive consideration under concentrated authority. The paper connects six information states with RCA's nine domains and develops eight testable propositions.
